Today sees the launch of Mango’s first flight featuring in-flight broadband. This is great news for business travelers, or anyone with a laptop or iPad, really.

Mango has partnered with Vodacom, who will be running the Wireless G satellite service, which is said to be able to achieve speeds of up to 4mbps down, and 286 kbps up. The airline has said that they will be looking at charging between R50 – R100 per flight for unlimited access to the service. The plane communicates with satellites, which communicate with the ground, and then shoot the data back at the plane.

Pretty amazing, to think you’ll be in a metal tube, traveling at 800 km/h, and still able to watch YouTube videos of cats. Or do work. My priorities may be different to yours.

Now if only they’ll make the tray tables big enough for a laptop.
