Anyone else never heard of Tshidi Thamane before?
Just as Twitter was cooling off from last Friday’s Jessica Leandra furore, another South African model (and also actress, apparently) called Tshidi Thamana (@tshditee) set the infernos of South African outrage blazing once more with this tweet she fired off in response to the Leandra debacle this weekend.
Apparently Tshidi didn’t know that racism in response to racism is still racism.
The condemnation flooded in; from highway traffic bandit @pigspotter to Clayson Monyela, the spokesperson for our Department of International Relations and Co-operation; hundreds responded and let Tshidi know she was out of line, though not in quite such diplomatic terms.
Undeterred, Tshidi sent off another couple of zingers before presumably coming to her senses and deleting the tweets from her feed. Too late for her unfortunately, since the internet always remembers:
Tshidi finally relented yesterday, issuing a half-assed apology in the same vein as her comrade in Twitter foolery, Jessica Leandra-Dos Santos, tweeting,
“Yes, racism is wrong and I apologise for the ‘kill all whites’ tweet … It was tweeted in anger.”
Ah, the classic “I was angry” manoeuvre, where have we seen that one before?
Later she added this apology to her first one: “Dear SA, sincere apologies for the death wish for white people, it was tweeted in anger and yes, condemnation of each other is wrong.”
We’d love to offer you some more visuals of Tshidi, as we did with Jessica on Friday, but it appears her claims to be a model and an actress are a little thin on the ground, evidence-wise, except for this one sent to fellow Cape Town blogger, Life is Savage:
Chair stack-chic!
Like Ms. Leandra, perhaps all Ms. Thamana is a model for is how not to behave on Twitter. If so, then she chose excellent company from her very first tweet. In any case, both of them can hash(tag) it out if/when they’re called before the SA Human Rights Commission.
