SABC Radio and The New Age newspaper have reported that Julius Malema’s expulsion from the ANC has been upheld. As from today, 24 April 2012, Julius Malema is no longer a card-carrying member of the ANC, and holds no office in the party, or any of it’s organs.
While both the SABC and The New Age have made reports on the matter, we’ve had no official word from the National Disciplinary Committee Of Appeals, which is handling the case, to confirm.
This follows the initial expulsion of Malema in November of last year, for apparent “sowing of division” within the party – an expulsion which, despite Malema’s frequent appeals, has been upheld.
The fact that Malema recently called Jacob Zuma a dictator is unlikely to have helped his case.
As such, Malema is just a guy now – with no standing whatsoever within the ANC, ANCYL, or the Limpopo province’s executive committee.
We can expect some fallout from this – within the ANCYL as folk race to occupy Malema’s vacated position, and maybe the ANC as a whole, which is clearly clamping way the hell down on members that don’t toe the party line.
