Khulubuse, in happier, pre-auction times. We’re hoping the shirt will stay.
Last week it was reported that possessions of President Zuma’s nephew, downed mining magnate and lover of life’s finer things, Khulubuse Zuma, were going on auction this week to leverage the debt he and his partners accrued in the liquidation of Aurora Empowerment Systems, which hit rock bottom in the failed mining venture at Grootvlei in Springs to the tune of millions of rands now owed to creditors and workers.
Recently, Protea Coin Security gained a court order to seize several of Zuma’s household assets to help pay off the R10 million he owes them, and let’s not even start on the R4,5 million in back wages he owes his mining crews.
Today several of Zuma’s luxury cars – including his 3, 5 and 7 series BMWs – and other gorgeous plus-size swag such as kitchen appliances, furniture and electronics are on auction in Verulam in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and we’ve been following author, brand ambassador and M&G thought leader Sarah Britten, who is at the auction, on Twitter via @Anatinus.
Needless to say, it sounds like a free-for-all. Here are some of her top tweets as Khulubuse’s possessions go under the hammer:

On the killer sound system:
On the worn out furniture (mysterious stains FTW):
It’s unclear yet whether the auction will raise near enough to cover the costs of Aurora’s debt to Protea Coin security, nor what other sacrifices Zuma faces to meet his creditors. Should there be any other swag scoops from the auction we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
