The University of Stellenbosch has been rocked by three bomb threats in the last six weeks. The most recent incident was yesterday afternoon, with the university receiving yet another mysterious threat which required evacuation of staff and students. These cannot be making anyone in the varsity community feel very comfortable.
Yesterday the university’s JC Smuts building in Stellenbosch’s Merriman Street had to be cleared immediately and police called in to examine the area before it was declared safe at around 15h30.
Two similar bomb threats, aimed at the University of Stellenbosch, were received on 1 March, also resulting in major disruptions and evacuation of classes. Anyone with light to shed on the incidents is asked to contact campus security or phone 021 808 2330.
