Very disturbing video footage has emerged – involving security guards beating foreign nationals with sjamboks outside a home affairs office in Pretoria. They also claim they are being forced to pay bribes.
The foreigners were waiting in a queue to renew their refugee papers. They have been waiting for more than a week already. Why? According to the department, they “ran out of the special paper” used for permits.
In recent history, foreigners have fallen victim to xenophobic attacks. This video makes one wonder what would happen to these people should such an attack occur and their lives depended on home affairs and these security guards.
