2oceansvibe Exclusive: Amateur footage has emerged, in which a woman, bearing striking resemblance and vocal tone to Eastern Cape Premier, Noxolo Kiviet, is seen inebriated and shouting obscenities in an Eastern Cape bar.

An East London man who wishes to stay anonymous, shot the footage on his BlackBerry mobile phone at the Old Selbornian Sports Bar in East London at 23:57 on Friday, February 24, 2012.

He alleges that the woman in the video, who states “Black people, they like to lie” (0:27) and “You white people like to say the truth, but the truth will never take you to heaven”, (02:41) at two separate points, is indeed Eastern Cape Premier, Noxolo Kiviet.

“I am very sure it was Noxolo,” he said, “I was there from 10pm, ’til midnight. I left at midnight, and she was still there. People were calling her ‘Kiviet’ and discussing/laughing about political issues.”

The manager of the Old Selbornian Sports Club, Warren Sterling, refused to comment.

Contacted for comment, and having been given the opportunity to view the video, the office of the Eastern Cape Premier did not comment on the story.*

Kiviet made headlines earlier in the year after being arrested for driving nearly 40 kilometres over the speed limit – and then, just days later, pleaded with motorists to slow down on the roads. Her excuse for speeding was that she needed to attend to her sick mother. She missed her East London Magistrate’s Court date, to attend a meeting with Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and the SA Democratic Teachers’ Union in Bhisho to discuss tensions between union members and education boss Modidima Mannya.

Recent polls show that Kiviet has the lowest approval rating of any of the premiers in the country, with her province facing a looming education and housing crisis.
