All Blacks star, and one of the most well known rugby players in the world at the moment, Sonny Bill Williams, wants to make Cape Town his home. His agent, who is currently in Cape Town, said Sonny is ready to discuss a possible contract with the Stormers. He could also climb into the boxing ring here as soon as November.
According to Die Burger, Williams’ agent, Khoder Nasser, is looking at opportunities for his client in Cape Town, and Nasser said a contract with the Stormers was not excluded – it would be up to the Stormers.
Williams currently plays for the Chiefs, and his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union will expire at the end of the year.
Nasser explained that Sonny really likes Cape Town, and that he’d definitely be interested:
It’s really not for me to say that the Stormers must offer him a contract. That choice lies with them, and them alone. But what I can say, is that Sonny Bill really likes Cape Town, and that he’d definitely look at such an option.
If he accepted all the meal offers he received when he was here last year, he’d be able to go and eat three different meals at three different places every day for two years. Sonny Bill feels that Capetonians appreciate his talent, and this was why he liked the Cape so much.
The 26-year-old was also looking to get into the boxing ring in Cape Town later this year, though his opponent has yet to be confirmed.
Boxing promoter, Tinus Strydom:
We will handle Sonny Bill’s boxing arrangements. This represents a tremendous opportunity for boxing in South Africa, considering Williams has already had an offer from promoter, Don King. I think we can take his boxing career forward in the right manner.
It was also announced yesterday, that Sonny Bill, along with Wallaby Quade Cooper, will play in the exciting new sevens rugby tournament, named 7’sPL, at Outeniqua Park in George on December 14 and 15.
Willem Strauss, a promoter for the event:
It’s fantastic news for the tournament, and we’ve organised the tournament to fit within players’ schedules. Williams and Cooper will play in the same team, and it will also be the first time the two play together.
Williams is currently the most prestigious player appearing at the tournament.
