A Joburg woman was sliced in half on Monday when a light aircraft struck her at a small airfield in Ermelo. Three woman, who improperly gained access to the airfield, were running across the runway as the plane came in to land. The Central Aviation Authority is busy looking into the matter.
Police spokesperson Captain Carla Prinsloo said it would appear as though the woman were picking up wood in a plantation near the airfield. “They took a shortcut over the airfield but one of the women miscalculated and was hit by the plane’s left wing,” Prinsloo said on Tuesday. You know, a bit like people crossing the N2 where there isn’t a bridge.
The woman was hit by the plane’s left and cross wing. The pilot was not injured but damaged has been sustained to the plane. An inquest docket has been opened by the police in Ermelo.
