The story has been well-discussed this weekend, so you probably picked up that a lot of people won a lot of money on Saturday night. They placed bets on the 2oceansvibe Super 15 Multiple (see here), which is a weekly multiple that 2oceansvibe’s staff put together in conjunction with bet.co.za. This week’s multiple required four different predictions to come true during the weekend’s Super15 rugby tournament – delivering 75 to 1 odds if ALL came through. Those odds went up to 100 to 1 as bet closing time drew near.
Excitement reached fever pitch by 7pm, as the SA twittersphere confirmed that three of the four bets (that make up the multiple) had already come true. The last piece in the puzzle was for Stormers to open with a try in their game against the Lions.
They did. And with the bet moving up to 100 to 1 odds for late bets, some people walked away with a monster-load of money, from very small bets. There were numerous reports of R50,000 and R70,000 winnings and a vast majority taking home R7,500 (for a R100 bet) or R15,000 (for a R200 bet).
Mark Bosman from bet.co.za confirmed that total winnings in excess of R600,000 were paid out, adding, “for sports betting, this is equivalent to winning the lottery.” He also confirmed that “a large number” of people won between R20,000 and R70,000.
This is not the first time this has happened for 2oceansvibe. Last week we promoted 10 to 1 odds on Bryan Habana scoring the opening try for the Stormers v Blues game.
Much care will be taken on formulating this coming Friday’s 2oceansvibe Super 15 Multiplier, which could make it three in a row.
Remember to check 2oceansvibe around 9am on Friday, to see what we have put together for you – hopefully to make you some more bucks! The best way to get alerts for these type of things is Twitter. So make sure you’re following @2oceansvibe.
