An-ex Cape Talk producer (verified), who wishes to remain anonymous at this point, has given us the following information on the topic of FM listenership figures and the exorbitant prices mainstream radio charges its clients. This follows this morning’s article, entitled, “Ex-Primedia Employee Exposes FM Radio Listenership Methods.”
My two cents on the listenership issue, when I was a producer at CapeTalk, it was always a big day when the RAMS came out. If the numbers were up, the CEO would run around excitedly, results flapping in her hand, telling everyone who would listen that the numbers were up and things were great and congratulations and we cured cancer and saved the Congo.
When the numbers were down, she’d call a meeting and tell us all not to worry, that the numbers weren’t very realistic and that the survey was only based on 2000 households and was not very accurate.
I realised then that the whole thing was a sham. Long live digital radio.
