Allan Shelley

A Capetonian filmmaker has beaten hundreds of screenwriters and directors in Jameson First Shot – an international short film competition. The prize? Allan Shelley is now on his way to Los Angeles to film his movie, with Oscar winner Kevin Spacey as part of the cast. Then he’ll bring Kevin back to South Africa to help him promote the film.

Shelley’s script is called Spirit of a Denture, and is the story of “a hardworking dentist who receives a visit from a pirate.” The competition received 276 entries from South Africa. A shortlist was compiled and candidates had to submit additional work to display their creativity and director’s talent. Spacey and Dana Brunetti, a judge and producer of the movie The Social Network, declared Shelley the winner. USA and Russia also took part and a winner from each country was chosen.
