“Probably not,” is the answer. It seems as if things have returned to normal on the Facebook servers around parts of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The outage earlier affected facebook.com, as well as apps for mobile phones and tablets. Facebook has thus far put the incident down to “technical difficulties.”
Earlier today, 2oceansVibe reported that Facebook had gone down for many users across Europe, Asia, and here at home in South Africa.
Hacking group, Anonymous, quickly jumped to their own defence after Twitter users asked whether they had been responsible, saying: “No. We have already said 30 times. No #OpFacebook” [sic].
The outage seems to have lasted for about two hours.
Facebook subsequently released a short statement of its own:
Today we experienced technical difficulties causing the site to be unavailable for a number of users in Europe. The issue has been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologise for any inconvenience.
No mention of any of the other regions affected. It would appear as if we weren’t special enough to warrant a mention in that apology.
