Aww, a boy and his (undead) dog

If you’re a Tim Burton fan, then you’ll be well aware of his classic 1984 stop motion short film, Frankenweenie, which was a predecessor in both style and technique to his later masterpiece, The Nightmare Before Christmas. It tells the tale of young Victor who tries to, and succeeds in, reviving his dead dog, Sparky. In a humorous re-working of the Frankenstein tale, Sparky escapes, and havoc ensues.

Now, after almost twenty years, Burton has re-made Frankenweenie into a full length film using stop motion and 3D animation, but retaining the signature black and white stylings of the original. It’s going to be released by Disney Digital 3D in October this year, just in time for Halloween, and will be the first stop motion film ever to be released in IMAX 3D. Trust me, the 1984 version was amazing, and this one looks even better.
