So I began to wonder, will they ever let this series die gracefully?
The CW network in the States has released a much anticipated nugget of casting news related to their hotly-awaited prequel series to HBO’s smash hit, Sex and the City. Ladies and… er, some gentlemen, meet young Carrie Bradshaw!
The Carrie Diaries will follow young Carrie Bradshaw (a role made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker through six seasons of Sex and the City and two movies) as she makes her way through young adulthood during the 1980s, and is set to premiere this autumn (that’s autumn in the States, bee-tee-dubs, so around September).
The role of young Carrie has been given to AnnaSophia (one word) Robb, whom we last saw doing her best impression of a blueberry in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Violet Beauregarde. She was also in Bridge to Terabithia and… er, Jumper. So, it’s pretty clear that this is a career making opportunity for her, specifically so as not to be remembered as that purple girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
They have yet to announce whether Carrie’s other pals, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha will also be in the series, though personally I find the idea of an adolescent Samantha both alluring and alarming.
