Hey, future. Mercedes-Benz unveiled plans yesterday to use Siri – the virtual assistant exclusive to the iPhone 4S – to power its new A-class electronics system, called “Drive Kit Plus,” which will allow drivers to access their iPhone apps using voice commands. In case you ever feel like updating your Twitter status while driving something sexy.
The Drive Kit extends to in-car functions too, so in the event that drivers are still using their radio for anything, they can use Siri to change channels on that too – and there’ll be a Garmin GPS plug-in included, so that folk can navigate and get directions with simple voice commands. Which is reasonably cool.
The new features will debut at the 2012 Geneva auto show next month, and will roll out in all A-Class vehicles in the year’s fourth quarter.
