WikiLeaks is doing stuff that doesn’t involve Julian Assange’s career as a television personality – in this case leaking a cache of over 5 million internal emails from Stratfor, a “global intelligence” company. They reveal secret intelligence services provided to Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, among others.
The emails date from between July 2004 and December 2011, and form part of a series that WikiLeaks is calling “The Global Intelligence Files.”
The thing reads a little like a spy novel, or at least what I remember spy novels reading like. Stratfor fronts as an “intelligence publishing company,” while it operates a “shadow-CIA,” with “a web of informers, pay-off structure, payment-laundering techniques and psychological methods.”
But obviously this stuff is only important in so far as it relates to Assange and his impending arrest ; the press release informs us that the leaked emails also contain “information about the US government’s attacks against Julian Assange and WikiLeaks and Stratfor’s own attempts to subvert WikiLeaks.”
The stuff is getting released gradually – and no doubt whenever something else interesting/mentioning Assange comes up, we’ll hear about it here.
