Check it – when we hear of a band doing covers of our favourite party tunes, we want to listen straight away, and we want them to be good… very good. Unfortunately, these are sometimes epic fails, but today we have a serious treat for you. They’re called The Lightyears. Without the intention of sounding super lame, they really are lightyears ahead of most other cover bands out there.
The four members are based in London and fall under the genre of ready pop/rock. Not only do they do awesome covers of popular songs from the last 50 years, they also do their own songs, which are very catchy too. The Lightyears were awarded best pop/rock act at the UK INDY awards and have performed at some of the world’s most prestigious events, including the Queen’s birthday bash. Shame, NOT bad.
WXPN Radio station (Philadelphia, USA) summed them up as best anyone could “if the La’s and Wham! had a bastard pop-child they’d sound like this”. If you want to find out more about these guys, hear some of their own songs and keep tabs on their shows, visit their site: The Lightyears.
