A Boksburg man was killed this weekend while in police custody following the raid of a local night club. The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is investigating.
In the early hours of Sunday morning the police raided Presley’s nightclub, during which Rean Ramdin, 29, was apprehended. He was handcuffed at the scene and was subsequently shot and killed by a police officer.
According to a report in the Beeld, Ramdin’s cousins were with him at the time of the shooting and had taken the keys of the bakkie which he had borrowed from his father. They reported that shots were fired on the corner of Rietfontein and Rondebult Road en route to the police station.
ICD spokesperson Moses Dlamini had the following to say about the investigation,
I can confirm there was a shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning and a man died”
“There are two sides to every story, our job is justice. We must hear the side of the police too before we can make recommendations to the prosecutor.
According to Ramdin’s sister, Melody Perumal, the family had been told that Rean was trying to escape when warning shots were fired. During the commotion he was injured and later died from his wounds.
