In early 2011, Cape Town was buzzing with Hollywood fever as scenes for the action blockbuster Safe House were filmed across the city. Local women were frantically following Ryan Reynolds’ every move as they tried to catch a glimpse, phone number or kiss from the hunky actor. Despite the sudden refocus of the local females’ attention, the guys weren’t too phased – ’cause they got to see the roads closed for high-intensity action and car chase scenes happening in their own ‘hood!
And now, the Hollywood fantasy will become a reality for both guys and girls as Safe House comes to cinemas across South Africa. Check out the trailer!
Shot in Cape Town – and yes, that refers to both the gun-slinging action and the fact that this eagerly anticipated movie was filmed mostly on location in the gorgeous Mother City – Safe House stars Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington as two men on the run from a group of heavily-armed mercenaries.
Matt Weston, a rookie CIA operative (Reynolds), is waiting for the perfect opportunity to prove himself – but that’s no easy task when he’s been cooped up in an empty “safe house” in Cape Town for a whole year.
Weston realises that a prime opportunity is headed his way when he learns that former intelligence officer Tobin Frost (Washington) has been captured after almost a decade on the run. Frost is about to become Weston’s one and only guest at the safe house – and the fledgling agent is determined to handle the situation like a true professional.
But when their location is attacked, these two unlikely allies must team up and stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead…
Safe House releases nationwide on 10 February. View more information and book tickets via Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro, or visit the official Safe House website for more.
