Who’s a big boy then?
Recently, China celebrated their Lunar New Year, welcoming in the Year of the Water Dragon, which augurs prosperity and success. One Chinese family in Xinxiang City, Henan Province has gotten things off to a stellar start, producing the heaviest newborn yet recorded in China.
Little (or, not so little) Chun Chun was born last Saturday, and weighed an enormous 15,52lb at birth, which is just over seven kilograms. This is easily twice the weight of the average newborn in China.
Says proud mom, Wang Yujuan,
I clearly felt that my body was more clumsy than when I had been pregnant with my daughter. My belly was bigger than it was then. I guessed the baby would be between 4.5and 5kgs. I never expected to hear that he weighs 7kgs!
Three babies weighing around 7kg have been born in China before now, but Chun Chun just steals first place coming in at 7,04kg. The heaviest baby on record, according to the Guinness Book of Records, was born in Ohio in 1879, weighing 10,8kg. He died shortly after childbirth. Chun Chun, however, is doing just fine.
