Overnight temperatures in Finland have been plummeting to minus 40 degrees Celsius, all forms of travel have begun to become severely effected, and the cold is expected to continue for days to come.
The death toll across Europe has reached 306 as the weather continues to grip the northern hemisphere region.
The cold has even spread across the Mediterranean to parts of north Africa where 16 deaths have been reported in Algeria.
In Serbia, 70 000 people remain cut off in snowed-in Serbian villages – police and military units are providing what basic necessities they can.
The Ukraine has been amongst the worst effected region: 1 800 people have been hospitalised, 75 000 have sought warmth and food in the 3 000 shelters across the country.
At present, 131 people have died in the Ukraine alone.
Rome has experienced unprecedented traffic problems and was crushed by black ice as snow covered the city causing numerous car accidents.

A good story has emerged from Croatia though, where a woman gave birth to a girl with the help of two neighbours after emergency services were unable to reach her because she was in a village cut off by a blizzard.
She named her daughter Snjezana – “Snow-White” in Croatian.
Unfortunately weather services have predicted the weather won’t ease until at least midway through the week.
