It’s good to hear a positive story about the power of the new Consumer Protection Act to assist the average Joe. Owing to the clout of the CPA, Dumisa Seshabela has just taken delivery of a brand new Mercedes Benz CGI E200 to replace the faulty one she purchased in 2011.
Dumisa discovered her new baby had an oil leak shortly after she drove it off the shop floor of Maemo Motors in Rustenburg in April last year. After taking the vehicle back to the dealer for repairs, she was devastated when the oil leak resurfaced a week later. She was just ecstatic when the car came back with the same issue after yet another two weeks in the shop.
A disgruntled Ms. Seshabela contacted her local Consumer Affairs Office, and she was advised to demand that her vehicle be replaced. This did not go down all that well at Maemo Motors, naturally. Months of negotiation ensued, with the North-West province Consumer Affairs office arguing for the complainant’s rights under the new Consumer Protection Act.
Happily, the outcome was worth the time and effort, as Dumisa has just taken delivery of her new wheels.
The Consumer Protection Act gives consumers the right to receive goods that are safe, free from any defects and in good working order.
