It’s good to see that the law is at least making the news when it comes to South Africa’s current problem with rhino poaching. Another arrest has been made, this time a 58 year old farmer in Limpopo, who was busted with rhino horn and illegal firearms on the farm that he manages.
He was arrested yesterday, after police found rhino horn, elephant tusks and illegal firearms in his possession. He told police that he had just found the items in a safe on the farm years ago. A likely story. He was released on R3 000 bail and his case will be heard in March.
A total of 448 rhino were poached in 2011. In January this year, 28 rhino had been poached so far. The department of environmental estimated that 398 rhino would be killed by the end of the year.
