The American woman and Danish man who were held hostage in Somalia were rescued this week by the same guys who killed Osama Bin Laden. They sure have been busy. *Cue fist pump from Barack Obama.*
Jessica Buchanan (32) and Poul Hagen Thisted (60) were kidnapped by pirates three months ago in the Galmudug region of Somalia, from a land mine clearance unit of the Danish Refugee Council where they had been working.
President Obama authorised a rescue mission on Tuesday, and the Seals arrived during the dead of night, killed nine Somalian pirates and swept the hostages away to safety. As it happens, the rescuers formed part of the same navy unit (Seal team six) that was responsible for Bin Laden’s killing last year.
The US president had this to say about the successful mission:
As commander-in-chief, I could not be prouder of the troops who carried out this mission and the dedicated professionals who supported their efforts. The US will not tolerate the abduction of our people and will spare no effort to secure the safety of our citizens and to bring their captors to justice.
Just so you know.
