Here’s some excellent news for everyone counting their annual leave days for the Christmas break. President Zuma may declare Tuesday 27 December a public holiday this year.
As Christmas falls on a Sunday in 2011, and Monday 26 December is already a holiday, there’s a ridiculously strong argument that the Tuesday immediately following should be declared a public holiday as well.
Incidentally, the Department of Home Affairs has to make a recommendation on this, along with “industry experts”. It is believed that millions of leave-deprived office-workers would consider themselves industry experts on this issue as well.
JZ will make the announcement shortly.
