Santacon is a thing that happens in San Francisco every year; people dress up as Santa Claus and get very drunk. Public nudity is also legal in SF. So it makes sense for this year’s Santacon to have been an attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of naked Santas ever.

Santacon 2011 happened over the weekend. A couple of hundred folk opted out of the nudity thing, but there’s still a pretty large sample of naked Santas on display.

Said the event’s Facebook page, which is as close to an official site as I could find:

You have to be naked, but CAN and SHOULD be at least wearing a Santa hat. Boots/boot covers and gloves are also OK. Otherwise, it’s the Full Monty or nuthin’

No Elves, No Reindeer, etc. San Francisco LOVES all Santacon revelers, but Guinness will be strict about the “Santa” requirement.

You’ll have to sign some paperwork with your name, address and email and an OK to take your photo, that’s part of the Guinness rules too. For those worrying about breaking the law, public nudity is legal in San Francisco as long as it’s not of an explicitly sexual nature.

The Guinness attempt seems legitimate, but there’s no information on what the previous record for largest gathering of naked Santas was, or even how many naked Santas were recorded this weekend.
