Astra 4A satellite, the same satellite used by TopTV, will launch Porn Satellite TV, or PSat, across the country in January 2012. The 24-hour adult entertainment channel will be broadcast from outside of South Africa’s jurisdiction, which means South African authorities can do little to prevent it from traversing the airwaves.
The service is going to offer hardcore pornography aimed at heterosexual viewers, and anyone with a TopTV dish will be able to receive the service, but they’ll have to rent a separate decoder to view it because it won’t form part of the TopTV bouquet.
The new channel originates in France, and will require interested viewers to hire a special decoder and smartcard from African Satellite Installations to view the channel at a cost of R99 per month.
John Solomon of African Satellite Installations:
PSat is totally independent of other satellite channels and you will need a special decoder, smartcard and a satellite dish to view the channel.
All you have to do is unplug your TopTV decoder and replace it with the PSat decoder.
The company has already placed 5 000 decoders on order ahead of the channel’s launch in South Africa, and says that clients will be able to loop their TopTV and PSat decoders together so they don’t need to fiddle with cables all the time.
They’ve also expressly stated that they’re not associated with TopTV in any way.
