See you in fifteen, Jackie!
Former Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi has lost his appeal against a conviction handed down last year for receiving benefits from convicted drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti, and as such the fifteen year jail sentence he received has been upheld. The Supreme Court of Appeal has ordered the disgraced former cop to report to jail within 48 hours.
Selebi attempted to convince the appeal judges that the cheques he had provided to Agliotti were for an ill police colleague. Not convinced, the court upheld his conviction and dismissed his appeal unanimously.
According to his lawyer, Selebi collapsed after watching the decision be passed down, and needed to be calmed by those with him.
