Life is hard for bro’s who just want to hang out with other bro’s, says app developer, Jeffrey Canty, who has just launched a new app called Bromance.
Say Canty:
It’s kind of an awkward situation for guys to make guy friends. Girls don’t have the same problems that guys do in communicating and meeting new people,
Aww. Apparently, a bro simply can’t reach out to another bro, as Canty explains:
I’m not going to be in the gym lifting weights and look over at the guy next to me and say ‘hey, what are you doing later? I’ll get my ass kicked or I’ll get a date, and I don’t want either of those.
Quite. The smile-greet-and-meet method has been horribly inconsistent since, say, the dawn of time; so Canty and his team have developed a new app for iPhone (calm down, BB and Android users, your versions are en route) that runs along the same lines as apps like Grindr, or it’s hetero-cousin, Blendr. It uses your phone’s GPS to alert other users to your location. They can then see if your brofiles (actual term) match, and you can get together and like, hang.
In the case of Grindr, the app is marketed specifically to gay men and their socialising needs. More recently, Blendr was launched to fill a similar gap (!) in the straight market, though the platform is less explicitly sexual than Grindr – because apparently straight people don’t want sex on demand… right?
Bromance is aimed at hooking straight men up with other straight men that share their interests. Bro’s can check an activity feed for local hang outs, and also compete with each other using the “fist pump” section that pits bro’s against each other for “swag points”. Sounds delightful, you’ll be flicking your towels at each other in the gym showers before you know it.
