New Mr. Gay SA 2011, Lance Weyer, hails from the Eastern Cape.
Who says politics can’t have a pretty face? This last weekend, Lance Weyer, a DA councillor from Buffalo City in East London walked off with the title of Mr. Gay SA at the Grand Finale held at Gold Reef City in Gauteng.
Lance beat off stiff competition from the other finalists to walk off with South Africa’s premier gay title. The first prince title of Deputy Mr. Gay South Africa 2011, went to Gauteng’s Alexander Steyn and Casper Bosman from the Free State came in as second runner-up.
The crème de la crème of South Africa’s gay men!
Lance was a clear audience favourite at the ceremony, and scooped the most public votes leading to his claiming the title. He was also awarded the Bone Wear Model of the Year (a range of underwear), as well as the gong for best Charity Work.
Says Lance of the title Mr. Gay SA:
Mr Gay South Africa isn’t just about being a pretty face, it’s also about finding a representative for the community who can help to bring about change. I’d like to be Mr Gay South Africa 2011 as I’d like to be a role model to South African LGBTI youth.
Lance is going to have a full plate as Mr. Gay SA, besides all his work representing the good citizens of Buffalo City in East London. He also sits on the district’s Public Health & Safety committee. Lance will now go on to represent South Africa at the Mr. Gay World competition in 2012. He has big shoes to fill since the last two Mr. Gay SA’s that went to Mr. Gay World won that title, too. Needless to say, Lance is going to have less time for this:
Gents, on the evidence, Lance likes walks on the beach, dogs, and not wearing a shirt.
