Microsoft thinks the techies at Amazon and Google will find free bacon hard to resist. And so, they’ve allowed one of their ad agencies, Wexley School for Girls, to set up a food cart outside Amazon.com’s headquarters, before moving to a spot near Google’s offices. There, workers were encouraged to eat free bacon with toppings like spray-on cheese.
The stunt is part of a broader campaign that’s trying to attract software developers to the Microsoft Kinect for Windows engineering team. They’d like to at least double their existing 35-member team to the 70-member mark.
Wexley titled the campaign: “Wake up and Smell the Future”, and hoped to attract some Amazon employees outside their South Lake Union headquarters in Seattle, Washington the other day.
A guy dressed in a white suit adorned with bacon strips, and called, The Sizzler, was on hand to help lure potential bacon consuming candidates. If spray-on cheese wasn’t your choice topping, you could’ve chosen from Sriracha – a hot Thai sauce – peanut butter, maple syrup and even chocolate sauce.
Free bacon, doesn’t happen every day…
The cart has since taken its bacon treats to an area in Seattle near to where Google and Adobe are based, hoping to do the same thing.
Google employees have it pretty good in their canteens, so why they’d be interested in bacon strips with toppings like spray-on cheese is not clear.
If you’re not aware of what Kinect is all about, check out this video. It’s basically next level Nintendo Wii:

The is how Microsoft explains it:
Controller-free gaming means full body play. Kinect responds to how you move. So if you have to kick, then kick. If you have to jump, then jump.
You already know how to play. All you have to do now is to get off the couch.
But it’s not all about gaming: it’s an interactive entertainment facility too, and Microsoft is keen to integrate it into the next generation of Windows and is clearly pushing the product:
We are one of the key initiatives at Microsoft. If you are interested in jumping on the “Kinect is cool” bandwagon, we have room!
We’re still not so sure about the free bacon though.
