Happy birthday Facebook wall posts just got interesting. It probably won’t be long before one starts scrolling through those birthday wall posts to see who has sent a greeting card with a little bit of a surprise attached. Tech-savvy grannies everywhere will be rejoicing.
The new application, aptly named Send Money, basically allows for easy money transfers between Facebook users, with or without an e-card, containing a message, photos and videos to mark occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.
PayPal marketing manager JB Coutinho, describes it as “beam[ing]” money between people:
We are bringing the largest online payments company to the world’s largest social network to make it even easier to send money to your friends and family directly from Facebook.
In a world that’s turning increasingly to social media, we are giving our customers the flexibility to send their money to whoever they want, whenever they want and for whatever ‘occasion’ they want.
PayPal says that 80 per cent of their clients use Facebook, so it was a natural progression for their e-commerce business to integrate with the world’s largest social networking site.
Coutinho continued:
Imagine the smile when someone gets money for a cold beer and a message of “This one is on me! A frosty reception I know you’ll like.”
Coincidentally, as reported in morning spice, the Send Money app launched on he same day that Skype improved its software to allow Facebook members to have video calls with one another using the Internet telephony service.
