Rugby star, Solly Tyibilika was shot dead in a Gugulethu tavern over the weekend. Police say two men entered the premises at around 02h00 on Saturday and started shooting randomly, injuring two other patrons and killing Tyibilika, 32.
Tyibulika was described as a trailblazer within the black rugby fraternity by SARU president, Oregan Hoskins.
The loose forward played in eight Tests for South Africa, and continued at Super Rugby level with the Sharks and Lions until 2008. He then returned to his native Eastern Cape, where he represented Border until last year, and was included in the Southern Kings side which faced the British and Irish Lions during their 2009 tour.
