Big Cheeser Bob and I were fortunate enough to have lunch with an Ozzie fella, JC – one of the founding members of Movember. We chowed at my buddy Luke Dale Robert’s new restaurant at the Biscuit Mill, called “The Test Kitchen.” Awesome, simple cuisine aside, I was intrigued by JC’s clarification with regards to the rules of Movember.
As we all know, men of mo are meant to shave it all off at the beginning of November, revealing as close to a full moustache by the end of the month. What a lot of local guys are doing (including myself – last year) is letting the whole facial hair vibe grow and then shaving the sides (everything except the ‘tache) off every few days.
What you are MEANT to do is keep the sides smooth AT ALL TIMES – letting JUST the ‘tache grow. All on it’s own. That is the joy of the process – season this pathetic little thing grow all on it’s own.
Anyone can let their full beard grow – and look cool the whole way through – then shave off the bulk near the end to reveal an awesome mo. But you’re doing it wrong.
So there you have it. Keep that mo growing, but let it do it alone. If you’re growing the whole face at once, and then only revealing the mo when it’s looking good – you’re cheating.
Thanks for tuning in to this public service announcement.
