Julius Malema’s hearing today has pretty much brought all productivity to a halt, with most of us holding our breath to hear the result. Twitter was abuzz with activity, and stressed to all of us the importance of putting your iPad on silent before a big speech.
I think we can all agree that a good thing happened today. Julius Malema (pending an appeal, which is going to be difficult giving the thorough nature of the ANC’s verdict) has been suspended for five years. Throughout the entire hearing, tweets were flying left right and center. Here are some of the highlights of Mr Hanekom’s big speech, as seen on Twitter today.
First, some of the serious tweets, most notably from Mandy Wiener:
Cape Talk and 702 presenter, Redi Tlhabi, also made a good point:
Chris Roper, online editor of the Mail and Guardian, had this to say on Floyd Shivambu:
But the star of Twitter today was without a doubt Derek Hanekom, who forgot to switch his iPad to silent before making his speech, and is apparently unaware that is a volume control and a mute switch right on the edge of the device. His entire speech was littered with the infamous Apple ‘Tri-tone” notification, and those who looked carefully would have noticed him constantly having to cancel the push notifications he kept receiving.
Eventually, though he seemed to have noticed the noise his iPad was making, saying, “This thing is tjatjarag!”
I started wondering aloud during the speech, as to exactly how many tweets this poor man got:
That exact number remains a mystery, but this is an interesting little fact:
He also managed to have pushed the wrong button at some point, and exited his speech.
All in all, I think this was a pretty good test for using an iPad to give a speech. Just remember to put that shit on Airplane mode.
