Hell hath no fury like a Star Wars geek scorned

Last week, a 30 year old man from Preston in the north of England was jailed for life for the brutal murder of his Thai wife, Pornpilai Srisroy. Her only crime: she had the audacity to destroy his extensive collection of Star Wars memorabilia following a fight.

According to the police report, Ricki La Touche strangled his wife after her attack on his Star Wars toys. They had been fighting regularly, and she had repeatedly threatened to leave him. After killing her, La Touche went to his mother’s house (she lived nearby, of course) and tearfully confessed the crime, before police were called.

The couple had been married since 2003, when La Touche wedded his bride in her native Thailand. Subsequently he brought her back to England to live with his massive Star Wars collection and a mother-in-law across the road. Officers responsible for the case hoped his life sentence was some small comfort to Pornpilai’s family and friends. Killed by a Star Wars geek with mama issues thousands of kilometres away? I doubt it…
