This afternoon, Nairobi commuters sitting in their cars on their way home from work will notice thousands of yellow balloons floating over the Kenyan capital city. The objective of the spectacle? Simply to put a smile on locals’ faces following two recent grenade attacks in Nairobi. Cool idea.
In fact, this is part of a seven-stage ‘balloon distribution’ project by American artist, Yazmany Arboleda. To date, there have been three of these cheer-inspiring balloon giveaways worldwide, with four more scheduled in different countries.
According to the artist, the Kenyan balloon project has taken on particular significance in the wake of threatened terrorist attacks by Somali militants last month.
