There have been murders and rapes associated with Facebook, but this is likely to be the first house burning as a result of someone defriending someone else on the social networking website. Jennifer Christine Harris decided it was a good idea to burn down Nikki Rasmussen’s house while Nikki and her husband, Jim, were in their beds sleeping.
Jim immediately suspected it was Harris because he had recalled a continuing dispute between his wife and Harris on his Facebook newsfeed.
Detectives in Des Moines, Indianapolis, arrested 30-year-old Harris and charged her with first-degree arson. She is currently being held in the Polk County Jail. Luckily nobody was injured in the inferno.
Jim said the two women had a falling out “because she ended their friendship on Facebook.” It appears it also had something to do with a party event that Nikki created for Jen that got “a lot of declines.”
According to a police report:
The two are no longer friends due to a dispute over Facebook. According to Nikki, Jen is angry with her because she ended their friendship on Facebook.
Police Detective Jack Kamerick explained that the Facebook fighting then escalated into harsh text messaging because the party looked as if it was going to be a fail.
That’s when the Rasmussen’s garage went up in flames.
