In the second case involving board-games in as many weeks, a 60-year old woman repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend, 48, for allegedly cheating during a game of Monopoly.
On a night which could have ended like any other, Laura Chavez was indulging in an all too innocent round of Monopoly with her grandson, 10, and her boyfriend, Clyde “Butch” Smith at her home in Sante Fe. At some point during the game things got heated and Chavez accused Smith of cheating. Rather than be rational, she picked up a glass bottle and struck her boyfriend on the head with it and then proceeded to grab a knife and assault the man.
Police first to the scene found Smith bleeding from wounds on his head, neck and wrist and reported that both parties were intoxicated at the time. The grandson had gone to bed by the time the attack had taken place.
When cops arrived at Chavez’s building, she was sitting under the porch “covered with suspected blood.” Asked if the blood was Smith’s, she answered, “Yes, I f***ed him up.
Chavez was taken directly to jail on charges, amongst others, of aggravated battery on a household member with a deadly weapon and battery on a law enforcement officer. Stuck in the Sante Fe county lockup, her bond was set at US $5000.
