There are other products on the market that deliver short bursts of energy, but for those that really like their coffee; there is a new way for you to ingest it, without the hassle. Harvard biomedical engineering professor, David Edwards, has invented AeroShot: caffeine delivered to your body faster than coffee. Cue the coffee inhaler.
This isn’t Prof Edwards’ first attempt at something like this – he has previously done it with something he called Le Whif: a no-calorie inhalable chocolate product.
AeroShot however, is a product that delivers absorbable powdered caffeinated puffs directly onto your tongue via means of an inhaler that puffs out lime-flavored powdered caffeine.
It’s not as complicated as I made that sound: basically, you just point the thing inside your mouth like you would any normal inhaler device, give it a squeeze, and boom, instant caffeine.
The inhaler contains three puffs, which equate to the equivalent of a large cup of coffee, and it’s your choice as to how caffeinated you get yourself, though the daily recommended amount is no more that three AeroShot’s.
Professor Edwards didn’t stop there either – AeroShot also contains 100 per cent of the recommended daily allowance of niacin, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12.
Stevia, a herbal sweetener said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar, and also calorie free, is what helps the taste factor.
In a very Willy Wonka crossed with Heston Blumenthal kind of way, Prof Edwards explains:
I have a background in developing inhaled drugs and vaccines and I was fascinated about bringing that idea to a new way of eating. That’s how it began.
Frequently, the first time people do it, they laugh. There’s something funny about the act, how it happens in your mouth.
It’s going to be sold as an energy supplement, and because AeroShot contains vitamins, and caffeine is a legal substance, it’s been able to fly under the radar of the American Food and Drug Administration’s heavy-handed approach to such products, and will therefore be sold soon.
Price wise, it’s going to come in at under the price of a normal latte in the US.
