The Orlando Pirates have a good attitude towards success. Grounded, really. Because they like to have a good time, whether they’re winning or losing. Reports today say some of the players have turned the team residence in Buccleuch, Johannesburg into a “party haven”. Judging by the way they’ve been jolling, the defending league champions don’t seem to be at all worried that they have hit a slump in form.
Pirates chairman, Irvin Khoza, however, says it’s time for introspection on the players’ part(y).
They chose football as a career and if they don’t have the intelligence to take care of themselves, then it’s their problem. It’s sad. They will want to come back to us, beg and blame us when they are beggars on the streets. You have to know the rules and the rule is to respect your profession.
A so-called insider has said that coach Julio Leal is too soft on the players, and cannot maintain order in the team. Meanwhile, Pirates have dropped to eighth place on the Absa Premiership log.
