I’ve had that “Cry Just A Little” tune by Bingo Players (listen here) stuck in my head after hearing it on Ian F’s morning show. I knew that the chorus they sampled was from way back in my youth, but I couldn’t quite work it out. You know the one:
I know
Caught up in the middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh No
Gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
After some research and downloading on iTunes (American account) I finally got it for you. The original was by Brenda Russell in a late 90s song called “Piano In The Dark.”
This from Wikipedia:
Returning to A&M Records, Russell’s fourth album, Get Here, was released in 1988. It became her greatest commercial success, spawning her biggest hit “Piano in the Dark” (a US Top 10 hit which featured Joe Esposito) and garnered three Grammy Award nominations. The title track went on to become a worldwide hit in 1991 when it was covered by Oleta Adams. More here.
It’s a lot slower than the Bingo Players version – and you can listen to it below. the main part that you’re looking for kicks in at the 1:19 mark. But you should listen to the buildup anyway.
