Let’s just hope Brucey baby doesn’t drop before then!
Just when you thought they couldn’t eke another sordid drop out of the dried up teat that is the Die Hard series, the Hollywood Powers That Be announced that the fifth installment in the 23-year-old series will hit our screens on Valentines Day 2013.
All we know thus far is that Brucey baby will be parking his Zimmer frame and revisiting his signature role as John McClane. The fifth outing will be directed by Max Payne and Behind Enemy Lines helmer, John Moore; and the title has been tentatively revealed as Die Hard 5: A Good Day To Die Hard.
Two pressing questions emerge from this inevitable hot mess: first, why do we need another Die Hard film starring the now practically geriatric Bruce Willis? I mean, the previous four have only grossed US$530 million in total – which in Hollywood terms, means small change. Half a Harry Potter film grosses twice that in a week! Perhaps it’s time for Die Hard: The Next Generation?
Second, Why the V Day release? Isn’t that traditionally the launch date for a gushing torrent of soapy, sappy rom-coms starring one or other glittery Twilight alumnus, designed to distract our better halves from our questionable taste in Valentines gifts? Said boyfriends/girlfriends are going to be none too pleased to be dragged to an adrenaline-drenched action feature on their most romantic of nights. Hollywood, why are you trying to cock block us with a turgid Die Hard fivequel?
