“Til two-years do us part…”
Lefty legislators (Those liberals! What will they come up with next?) in Mexico City are pondering a change to the city’s civil code that would give couples eager to samba down the aisle the chance to sign out of “til death do us part” within two years of the anniversary, giving them the opportunity to annul or renew their vows without censure.
The minimum marriage contract would restrict the full marriage license for two years or more, and will attempt to turn back the city’s spiraling divorce rate. Currently over half of all marriages in Mexico City are kaput before two years have passed.
The amendment is still in the lobbying stage, which means a lot of support needs to be gathered to vote it into law, and unsurprisingly, the country’s powerful Catholic Church has come out against the idea strongly, claiming it perverts the idea of marriage.
