Wonderful. Leisha Hailey, former The L-Word castmember, was thrown off of a Southwest Airlines flight yesterday for kissing her girlfriend – the flight attendant citing the apparent fact that Southwest is a “family airline.” This is the same airline that booted Kevin Smith for being fat, and Green Day’s Billy Joel Armstrong for wearing baggy pants.
But unlike Kevin Smith and Billy Joel Armstrong, Leisha Hailey and her partner, Camilla Grey, are actually sort of likeable. Thus, there has been a pretty strong boycott movement building in the wake of their being escorted off the Southwest flight.
As all celebrities are expected to do when upset by something, Hailey and Grey tweeted about the experience, on their respective accounts and on their band stream, Uh Huh Her;. A fair amount of outrage has ensued.
Southwest Airlines hasn’t released any sort of statement as of yet – which Haily and Grey take as implicit support for their homophobic employee – but it’s sort of fun that the airline nonetheless does talk a fair amount about their “outreach and commitment to the GLBT community.” On the internet, nobody knows you’re a hypocrite.
