A teenage boy who has been dubbed “forest boy” by the international media is apparently keen to go back to the bush. The boy, believed to be a 17-year-old English language speaker, handed himself over to German officials in Berlin earlier this month after walking for about two weeks. Officials describe his story as “incredible”.
Very little is known about the youngster, but he arrived in the German capital with his rucksack, tent and sleeping bag, and told officials his father had recently died.
Details are vague, but the father is believed to have perished after falling while walking in the Forest. The boy, known only as Ray, had buried his dad in a shallow grave before deciding to make the trek north, to safety.
Sources close to the case say Ray is having difficulty sleeping in a proper bed, and has expressed a desire to return to the wilds.
Currently it is suspected Ray spent five years living in a forested area south of Berlin with his father.
The Daily Mail reports that a source close to the investigation says it was “unsurprising” that the teenager found a soft bed so unusual, and continued that:
He has indicated that he would be far more comfortable on the forest floor and would prefer to return there to sleep.
What officials have established thus far is that Ray has said his father, identified as Ryan, took him into the forest south of Berlin after his mother, Doreen, perished in a car accident some time ago.
Obviously officials are pretty perplexed by all of this, and even suspect that Ray and his father were British, given Ray’s basic grasp of the German language.
Officials have begun the search for Ray’s father’s body, and are hoping that a court order will allow an official to be appointed to make important decisions on his behalf.
Once this is successful, officials will also be able to verify details like DNA, dental records and fingerprints against those of missing children.
