Lacoste is having a bit of an Abercrombie and Fitch moment and has asked the Norwegian police to prohibit terrorist and mass murderer, Anders Behring Breivik, from wearing their clothes during his court appearances. Breivik seems to consistently wear his red Lacoste sweater with the distinctive crocodile logo on his trips out of prison.
A police spokesman in Oslo had the following to say:
The company feels that such a man sporting their clothes could do considerable harm to their reputation.
The 32-year-old gunman, who killed 77 people on July 22, also wrote about the iconic French brand in his online manifesto: “refined people like [me] should wear brands like Lacoste.”
The Norwegian daily, Daglabet, is reporting that senior figures at Lacoste have written to Norwegian police officials because the situation was becoming somewhat of a “nightmare” for the French company’s exclusive image.
However, Lacoste said today that it was “not prepared to comment on the subject” as yet.
Apparently he also really likes their polo shirts.
