The device, which is due to be released shortly, was supposedly lost in a San Francisco tequila bar and then sold to Craigs List, an internet listings company. Apple engineers were reportedly franticly trying to get it back. Duh. This isn’t the first time a prototype has been ‘lost’, in April last year the iphone 4 was ‘found’ in a beer garden and sold to Gizmodo for $5000. Sneaky.
The device was electronically tagged and eventually tracked down to a specific address, the man who opened the door then admitted to being in the bar and allowed police to search his home, but they found nothing.
As you would expect, the engineers are never allowed to take projects away from the Apple campus, which is why this is probably a load of marketing shit. But if it isn’t, the person or persons responsible could be in a world of trouble.
The owner of the bar, Jose Valle, joked: “I guess I’ll have to make my drinks a little less strong.”
So either we’re dealing with some lightweight engineers and somewhere out there the new iPhone is being cloned and enjoyed as we speak, or Apple is trying to fool the public twice with the same gag.
All I know is, I want one ASAP.
