The ANC has given assurances today that it will not back down on the charges brought against Julius Malema and ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, in spite of the youth league’s requests for urgent discussions on the matter. It seems the league is still not clear on why Juju and Floyd are actually being charged.
ANCYL NEC member Magdalene Moonsamy says the league still wants to embark on a political engagment to get clear on the motive behind the charges. Because I guess bringing the ANC into disrepute and creating divisions in the party over statements, inter alia, calling for a regime change in Botswana is not really very specific…
In any case, the ANC is adamant that disciplinary action against the ANCYL leaders will go ahead, according to party spokesman Brian Sokutu. Whether that means a slap on the wrist or something more ‘specific’ remains to be seen.
